Scientific Activities

The Pierre Belon Association aims to foster scientific exchange and the development of international collaborations around Balkan, Hellenic, Byzantine, and South-East European studies.

Building on the orientations set out by André Guillou, the association seeks to create a space for interdisciplinary dialogue bringing together established researchers, early-career researchers, and specialists from a range of European academic traditions.

Its scientific activities are organised mainly around:

  • publishing the journal Études Balkaniques – Cahiers Pierre Belon

  • developing monograph collections and editorial projects

  • international scientific collaborations

  • promoting research on the Balkan and Mediterranean worlds;

  • as well as organising, hosting, or supporting scientific gatherings, study days, conferences, and collective projects

The association pays particular attention to comparative and interdisciplinary approaches, as well as to research applied to cultural circulations, historical legacies, and interactions between South-East European societies.

Through its activities, the Pierre Belon Association aims to contribute to the renewal of studies devoted to the Balkans, the Hellenic world, and the former areas of Byzantine and post-Byzantine influence, while fostering exchange between different European scientific traditions.
